E-commerce is an abbreviation for electronic commerce, which is the buying and selling of goods or services over the internet. It can be conducted on computers, tablets, smartphones and other smart devices.

How Does E-Commerce Work?

On an e-commerce website or mobile app, visitors can find products, add them to a cart and securely enter their payment information to complete a transaction.

E-commerce generally follows these steps:-

  1. The business creates an e-commerce website.
  2. The business lists their products or services .
  3. Customers choose what they want to buy.
  4. Customers use a credit or debit card to pay for their purchase.
  5. The business receives the order.
  6. The business ships the product or provides the service.

E-Commerce Platforms

An e-commerce platform is software that makes it possible to create and manage an on-line store. The platform provides the tools necessary to improve the shopping experience and streamline business operations.

WooCommerce, Shopify, Wix and Squarespace are popular e-commerce platforms.

Is it “E-Commerce” or “Ecommerce”

The spelling “e-commerce” and “ecommerce” are both correct, although we prefer the traditional spelling “e-commerce” on our website. The spelling “ecommerce” – without the hyphen – is often used nowadays.
