A plugin or plug-in is software that adds new functions and features to a host program without changing the host program itself. Plugins are sometimes also called “add-ons” or “extensions”.
WordPress Plugins
WordPress plugins are used to add extra functionality to the WordPress dashboard. Users will normally need to install plugins for the following:-
- Security
- Contact Forms
- Backups
- SEO
- Social Media Integration
- E-commerce
“Plugin” or “Plug-In”
On our website we generally use the single word “plugin” as opposed to hyphenating it as “plug-in”. Both versions are used frequently and there is some debate as to which one is correct. We chose to use the un-hyphenated version as it can be considered more modern.
